Through the years, the threat for marine life conservation becomes more alarming. Numerous studies have revealed that a significant amount of trash poses a huge peril to marine wildlife. In fact, National Geographic has shown that at the present, there are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the world’s ocean. From these mass of rubbish, there are 296,000 tons of trash that float on the ocean’s surface.

Beneath this problem comes a much worse predicament. It is believed that 700 species of marine wildlife could go extinct because of this dilemma. Current explorations have found out that at least 267 species are affected at the present. Most deaths of this marine wildlife are caused by suffocation, ingestion, starvation, and entanglement to these trashes. In reality, one in three marine animals was found to be affected by some marine wastes. Even the sea creatures in the depths of the ocean didn’t escape this problem. Some researchers exposed that 48% of these creatures (at the depth of 2,000 m) have plastic in them. This caused apprehension among marine biologists and marine advocates.

Besides the waste that threatens marine life, there are also lots of people who do illegal practices like Muro-Ami, dynamite fishing, and wildlife trafficking.

On the other hand, in the midst of this predicament stands those people who continuously go with their advocacy of protecting the ocean. There are now several projects and operations that promote the protection of the ocean through recycling, waste reduction and cleaning the waste off of the ocean’s surface. Some even go an extra mile by keeping an eye on the oceans by providing surveillance to bodies of water. Some of these advocates take advantage of technology to secure the ocean.

Nowadays, the use of drones in these kinds of projects and operations is becoming prevalent. Here are some ways how drones are perfect for this mission.

Drone Solutions. Drones surpass the limitations of humans by going up to 500 feet and being able to provide waterproof communication. Moreover, drones provide high-quality footages that can capture videos of people practicing illegal activities that harm the marine wildlife. Drones are now used to monitor marine creatures that are endangered or going extinct without disturbing their habitats. Marine life conservation is indeed very important as its destruction will drastically bear an impact on our lives as humans.
